CfP: GeoJournal issue focusing on Canadian cities

Special Issue
Canadian Cities: Systems and Structures

A special edition of GeoJournal focusing on Canadian Cities is planned for early 2009. This issue will include articles that contribute to an understanding of the systemic (organization of urban areas across Canada and its regions) and the structural (organization of spaces and activities within metropolitan regions) aspects of Canada’s urban development. Proposals are being sought for original contributions to these broad topics; specific topics may include:

• The nature of the Canadian urban hierarchy and inter-regional relationships;
• Intra-regional relationships between urban areas;
• The nature of specialized urban systems, such as border communities;
• The evolution of land use within urban cores;
• The nature of suburban development;
• The impacts of economic restructuring within and across urban areas and local government responses;
• The restructuring of local governments;
• The impacts of changing technologies and transportation systems on the organization of urban spaces.

Expressions of interest should include the following information:
• Proposed research question
• Data sources
• Methodology.

This information should be provided to the editors of the special edition by November 30, 2007. Completed papers should be submitted by June 1, 2008. Papers will be peer reviewed with reviewers’ comments returned to authors by October 1, 2008. Revised manuscripts will be required by December 31, 2008.
