Calgary Heritage Authority Opens Nominations for the 2006 Lion Awards

The Calgary Heritage Authority (CHA) is a 12 member citizen Board appointed by City Council. Today, the CHA opens nominations for the 2006 Calgary Heritage Authority Lion Awards to recognize citizens and organizations that have undertaken significant initiatives in support of heritage preservation in Calgary

“The Calgary Heritage Awards are an excellent way to acknowledge those who make a difference in our city,“ said Sheila Johnston chairman of the Calgary Heritage Authority. “Calgarians are proud of their heritage and the Calgary Heritage Authority is committed to the conservation and stewardship of our city’s heritage resources. Citizens from all walks of life have contributed to the growth of our city and have left us a legacy of which we are proud.”

The Calgary Heritage Authority Lion Awards recognize significant contributions in the following categories:
1. Restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive re-use of heritage buildings;
2. Compatible new design in a heritage context;
3. Community or neighbourhood revitalization;
4. Landscape preservation;
5. Heritage conservation and advocacy;
6. Heritage education, scholarship, interpretation or publication.
7. Heritage tradespersons/craftspersons.

The Calgary Heritage Authority Lion Awards will be judged by the Calgary Heritage Authority.

The Awards will be presented at a public reception at Pumphouse Theatre on August 3 2006. All Calgarians are encouraged to nominate their neighbours, business associates, colleagues and local organizations who have made a contribution to the preservation of Calgary’s heritage.

Works completed since May 24, 2003 are eligible for nomination.

Nominations must be received by May 24, 2006.
