PSA - Get the Shot, not the Mumps. Mumps shot at the UofC

Since this has come through to me from several sources, including the Office of the President, I thought I'd post it.

The Calgary Health Region is urging UofC students, faculty and staff born in 1970 or after to get a free mumps booster shot. This is if you've never received a mumps shot before, or have only received one.

(I got the mumps as a kid, and it was not fun. For adults, the symptoms are apparently much worse.)

New Journal - Summer 2008 - Energy & Environmental Science

From the list CHMINF-L (Chemistry Information) list. Energy & Environmental Science will be published by the Royal Society of Chemistry:

Energy & Environmental Science will link all aspects of the chemical sciences by publishing research relating to energy conversion and storage, alternative fuel technologies, and environmental science. It will be a monthly journal publishing topical reviews and original research as communications and full papers.

Recognising the complexity of issues and challenges relating to energy and environmental science, the journal will provide a forum for work of an interdisciplinary nature across both the (bio) chemical sciences and chemical engineering disciplines. From launch, the latest issue of Energy & Environmental Science will be freely available to all readers via the website, www.rsc.org/ees. Free access to previous content of the journal will be available following a simple registration process.

'The challenges relating to energy and environmental science that face the world today are complex,' said Dr Robert Parker, Managing Director of RSC Publishing. 'From alternative fuels to environmental impacts, climate change to energy conversion and storage - research in the chemical sciences underpins all the work that is so important to the future of our world. RSC Publishing recognises the significance of this area by launching Energy & Environmental Science.'

Statistics Resources

Catching up on professional reading, and saw this in the October 2007 issue of Information Outlook (the Special Libraries Association's publication.)

Statistics Resources
http://www.statisticsresources.info/

While most of the sites are U.S. government-run, there are other sites as well. According to the site, it is "designed to bring together the latest resources and sources on an ongoing basis from the Internet for statistics." There are almost 100 sites with statistics on health, population, transportation, economics, etc.
